Road to the Shire

On this side of the world in a not far distant place,
in the land of men where magic rings leave no trace
A guy named Zach gave a speech about dreams,
To a bunch of young kids, no one listening it seemed
But for  One and one Other, Zach’s speech seemed to glow
And it didn’t take too long, for One and the Other to know
That what they had heard would be inspiration enough
And all they needed now was a big idea and stuff
So One asked the Other, what he knew about the Shire.
“I’ve always wanted to go there!” the Other said with desire.
“Well what if we went there,” said the One to the Other?
You mean to New Zealand? So south it’s below southern?
“Exactly,” said the One. “They’re filming the Hobbit movie.”
“I love this idea,” said the Other. “It’s Groovy!”
“Let’s unite fans and get the movie to invite us.”
“If we all come together, then surely they’ll like us!”
One said to the Other, “this will definitely be grand.”
“But it wont be too easy, we could sure use a hand.”
So the One searched for help, as did the Other.
And wouldn’t you know it, that’s when they met Another.
So two became three, all with intense passion
And three became characters in true hobbit fashion
Olo, Toad, and Beri were three dreamers on a quest,
To influence the stories they knew and loved best
“We must get back to the shire, we must get home.
They pled with the world, “We cannot do this alone.”
They turned to the web and some small plastic ears
to entertain fans and unite Tolkien cheers.
So they remixed to Baby, instead of fighting off orcs.
They tweeted at Ellen, and LARPed in New York.
Through social media they were heard and given a voice.
It united so many, Peter Jackson would have no choice.
Donations came flowing and assets came, too.
Free places to stay, and plane tickets… phew!
But longer they waited for the invite to come.
If they didn’t get it soon, the filming would be done.
Their dreams would be smashed, they’d let down all those fans.
They could not let that happen. They had to take a chance.
So they decided to act and do things on their own.
“We’ll need our own plan and cameras to loan.”
“We will have to fly standby and pay for a bit ourselves.”
“Gather your extra money and coins off your shelves.”
So they did it themselves and took charge of their fate.
They flew to Middle Earth, but was it too late?
That I cannot tell you, for a secret it must stay.
But they got to the shire. That much I can say.
